Are you looking for a fun, relaxing, and lighthearted film to start your weekend off right? Then definitely don’t queue up Antebellum, Janelle Monáe‘s new horror movie that comes out this Friday on video-on-demand.

Written and directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, Antebellum doesn’t hold back on the horror when it comes to the horrible, torturous things endured by Monáe’s character, a slave working on a plantation for a ruthless owner (played by Eric Lange). But wait: Monáe also plays a character named Veronica, a wealthy, modern-day, successful academic embarking on a publicity tour for her latest book. So what exactly is going on here?
