At long last Archer has finally returned. Season 11 is the first installment in years that will see the gang once again stumbling and accidentally murdering people as a spy agency.

But Archer Season 11’s premiere episode came with a somber tribute to a great actor. If you’re wondering who Ron Leiberman was and you’re an Archer fan, don’t worry. You’ve definitely seen this late actor’s work before.

Who Was Ron Leibman?

Leibman was an esteemed actor. He starred in films such as Where’s Poppa? The Hot Rock, and Norma Rae, and he even won a Tony for Best Actor for his performance as Roy Cohn in Angels in America. But Leibman was best known for his television work. Not only did he star in Archer but he also played Dr. Leonard Green, Rachel’s wealthy father in Friends.

In December of 2019 Leibman passed away from complications of pneumonia. He was 82 at the time of his death.

Why Did Archer Season 11 Pay Tribute to Rob Leibman?

That tribute happened because Leibman brought one of Archer‘s most memorable and funniest side characters to life. In Season 4 Leibman voiced Ron Cadillac, a former car thief turned Cadillac dealer who marries Mallory (Jessica Walter). Throughout the series Ron has a strained relationship with his stepson Sterling (H. Jon Benjamin). Though he mostly appeared in Seasons 4 and 5, Mallory talks about him and their open relationship often, implying that the two are still married.

It’s not unusual for a show to pay homage to a beloved regular when he or she dies. But in Leibman’s case there’s a more personal connection to this tribute. Leibman was married to Jessica Walter up until his death.

What Episodes of Archer Did Ron Leibman Star In?

The absolute best Ron Cadillac appearance is Season 4’s “Midnight Ron.” That episode sees Ron and Archer teaming up on a mission gone wrong and unintentionally bonding in the process. In Season 4 Ron Cadillac appeared in “Fugue and Riffs”, “Legs”, “Midnight Ron”, “Live and Let Dine”, and “The Papal Chase.” He also appeared in Season 5’s “A Debt of Honor” and “House Call”; Season 6’s “Drastic Voyage: Part 1”; and Season 7’s “Motherless Child.”
