Chadwick Boseman’s ‘42’, ‘Get On Up’, and ‘Marshall’ to Stream for Free Thanks to the American Black Film Festival

The American Black Film Festival will be honoring late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman with a special retrospective next month. As part of the ABFF’s “Remembering Chadwick Boseman Film Retrospective” event, 42Marshall, and James Brown biopic Get On Up, will be available to stream for free on October 3 and 4 through the festival’s new streaming service, ABFF PLAY.

In a tune-in notice, The American Black Film Festival announced that it will be bringing “together Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of three iconic African American heroes — Jackie Robinson in 42 (WarnerBros.), James Brown in Get On Up (Universal Pictures), and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall (Open Road Films) — for viewing in one place” this weekend. All three films will stream for free on Saturday and Sunday on www.abffplay.com, the online homepage for the organization’s streaming service dedicated to showcasing Black and Brown voices.

“We truly appreciate WarnerBros, Universal Pictures, and Open Road Films for providing these three films in support of the Chadwick Boseman retrospective,” said ABFF Ventures President Nicole Friday in a statement. “We’re grateful to be able to offer the ABFF community and other fans a platform to see and celebrate his incredible talent and groundbreaking work portraying important Black figures.”

ABFF PLAY is a new entry into the streaming game, and its Chadwick Boseman retrospective serves as only its second major event. The service had its soft launch last month when it hosted the virtual American Black Film Festival from August 21-30. In the weeks and months to come, ABFF Play will also be hosting the Social Justice Now Film Festival (October 21-25) and Black Comedy Live (December 20), a pay-per-view series featuring “top Black and Brown comics in Hollywood,” reads the platform’s website.

In addition to its website, ABFF PLAY is available on iOS and Android devices and will be launching soon on Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, and Roku.
