Netflix’s New ‘Holidate’ Trailer Previews Upcoming Emma Roberts Movie

Netflix has a solution for the pesky relationship questions that plague single people every holiday season: Holidate. The streaming platform teased its latest romantic comedy today with a brand new trailer starring Emma Roberts as Sloane, a perpetually single young woman who has to deal with her coupled up family at every gathering.

But just when her aunt (Kristin Chenoweth) suggests she take up a “holidate” and find a single guy for the holidays, Sloane meets Jackson (Luke Bracey), an equally unlucky-in-love bachelor who’s also searching for a suitable date for the season. As Netflix puts it, these two “hate the holidays. They constantly find themselves single, sitting at the kids table, or stuck with awkward dates.”

Bet you can see where this is going — yes, Sloane and Jackson agree to be each other’s “holidate” for Christmas. But first, they set one very important rule in place. As Sloan points out, “Friends with benefits never works. So, Jackson proposes to “make it official,” with “non-sexual holidates from now on.”

So begins a year of celebrations, with the non-couple couple teaming up to take on every event, partaking in New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter festivities together. They even have their very own Dirty Dancing moment — although it’s not quite as successful as Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. But, as any good romantic comedy fan knows, the platonic friendship is often anything but. “As a year of absurd celebrations come to an end, Sloane and Jackson find that sharing everything they hate may just prove to be something they unexpectedly love,” the film’s official description reads.

Holidate also stars Andrew Bachelor, Jessica Capshaw, Manish Dayal, Alex Moffat, Jake Manley, Cynthy Wu and Frances Fisher. The film officially premieres on Netflix just in time for the latest big holiday, Halloween, on Oct. 28. Watch the full trailer for Holidate in the video above.
