BLACKPINK Will Kick off The First Episode of YouTube’s ‘Released’ Tonight

K-Pop group BLACKPINK is helping introduce YouTube‘s new music series. The musicians will be featured in tonight’s debut episode of Released, a new original series premiering exclusively online. As diehard fans know, tonight’s episode drops just minutes before BLACKPINK’s upcoming debut studio album release.

“We are honored and happy to be the first on YouTube’s new original content Released. We hope that it will be a great opportunity to celebrate our first full album ‘THE ALBUM’ with many global music fans,” BLACKPINK said in a statement today. The record-breaking group now officially holds the title of the second most subscribed artist on YouTube with a whopping 48.9 million subscribers, and YouTube crowned their single “How You Like That” as No. 1 in ‘YouTube’s Global Top Song of Summer‘ ranking. The track also won ‘Song Of The Summer’ at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards.

BLACKPINK has kept the hits coming this year, most recently teaming up with singer and actress Selena Gomez for the single “Ice Cream” which debuted at No. 1 on YouTube’s Global Music Videos Chart and No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The girl group, made up of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa, may have only formed in 2016, but they’ve been shattering records and building up an army of loyal fans over the past few years.

Released will premiere weekly every Thursday evening on YouTube, with new episodes dropping just moments before artists release new music at midnight. YouTube is planning 16 episodes in total, with BLACKPINK kicking off the series premiere tonight.

“Thursday nights on YouTube are going to be mic drop moments,” said Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music for YouTube, in a statement. “YouTube Music is all about connecting artists and fans and this Original series brings the world’s biggest artists and their newest videos and projects straight to the fans right before they’re released. We feel lucky to kick off this series with BLACKPINK, arguably the biggest artist in the world.”
