Ethan Hawke’s ‘The Good Lord Bird’ Trailer and Release Date on Showtime

Ethan Hawke‘s latest role takes him back in time to the 1800s. The Boyhood actor is taking on the part of controversial abolitionist John Brown for his new series, The Good Lord Bird, which he stars in and produces. Hawke adapted the show from the book “The Good Lord Bird” book by James McBride, which tells the story of Onion (Joshua Caleb Johnson), an enslaved boy who joins Brown’s family of abolitionist soldiers during Bleeding Kansas, later participating in the 1859 raid at Harpers Ferry.

While the Haper’s Ferry raid didn’t spark the slave revolt Brown was hoping for, it did begin the Civil War. The Good Lord Bird examines the Antebellum era, taking us back to real events that changed American history forever. Hawke’s latest project is a limited series, packing Brown’s story into seven weekly episodes premiere on Showtime starting this month. The Good Lord Bird comes from Blumhouse, the production company behind films like Get Out and BlacKkKlansman
