Hillary Clinton Anthology ‘The Woman’s Hour’ in Development at The CW

Hillary Clinton‘s long-awaited anthology series The Woman’s Hour has found its home. The CW is currently in development on the suffragette drama, the first season of which will be based on Elaine Weiss’ critically acclaimed book, The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote. Clinton serves as an executive producer on the series alongside Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Television.

The Woman’s Hour Season 1 will track the uphill battle to grant women the right to vote and ratify the 19th Amendment exactly 100 years ago. Subsequent installments of the anthology will focus on other political battles and highlight the women who changed history for the generations to come.

Amblin Television first optioned rights to The Woman’s Hour in August 2018 with the intention of adapting it for the small screen. At the time, the anthology series served as the former Secretary of State’s first major entertainment project (it will be her first time as an executive producer), but she has since participated in a variety of different films and series, including Hulu’s Hillary docuseries, and launched a new podcastYou and Me.

In addition to Clinton and Spielberg, author Elaine Weiss, and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Amblin TV will serve as executive producers on the anthology series. Angelina Burnett, best known for her work on Halt and Catch Fire, will serve as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

“I am thrilled to be working with Elaine, Steven and everyone at Amblin Television on bringing this important project to audiences everywhere,” said Clinton in August 2018, when news of the series was first announced. “At the heart of democracy lies the ballot box, and Elaine Weiss’ unforgettable book tells the story of the female leaders who — in the face of towering economic, racial and political opposition — fought for and won American women’s right to vote. Unfolding over six weeks in the summer of 1920, The Woman’s Hour is both a page-turning drama and an inspiration for everyone, young and old, male and female, in these perilous times. So much could have gone wrong, but these American women would not take no for an answer: their triumph is our legacy to guard and emulate.”
