‘Mulan’ Will Stream On Demand This Tuesday, October 6

Disney’s live-action Mulan will be available to stream on Video on Demand via Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, FandangoNOW, and other services this Tuesday, October 6. Customers can pre-order the film in SD, HD, or 4K UHD for $29.99 starting today with no subscription required.

While a variety of different services are accepting pre-orders for Disney’s live-action Mulan, customers will receive a special deal from Vudu, which was acquired by Fandango from Walmart earlier this year. Fans pre-ordering the film on Vudu will receive a $3.00 credit towards other movies and shows on the platform upon the film’s release next Tuesday. To pre-order Mulan, head to Amazon Prime, Vudu or FandangoNOW websites.

Mulan‘s transition to VOD comes just one month after the live-action film hit Disney+ Premier Access on Friday, September 4. At that time, the film was only available to Disney+ subscribers for a one-time fee of $29.99 on top of their monthly $6.99/month subscription fee. Just two days before the film’s release, Disney announced that Mulan will be free to stream for all Disney+ subscribers for no additional cost beginning December 4.

Disney’s Mulan remake has had quite a long journey to the screen. The live-acton adaptation was originally set to debut in March 2020, but as the COVID-19 pandemic began to shut down theaters across the globe, the premiere was pushed. Instead, Disney opted to send the film straight to streaming — a move popularized by Universal and Trolls: World Tour — where it became one of the highest-profile releases of the fall.

The film ultimately received mixed reviews from fans, but it seems to have been a hit for Disney+. The company has yet to release any concrete viewership data for the film, but app download research film Sensor Tower reported that in Mulan‘s first weekend on the platform, downloads of the Disney+ app spiked 68%, a figure comparable, if slightly lower, than the Hamilton-led spike (79%) in July.
