Three years after WFAN host Craig Carton was arrested on fraud charges, the radio personality is returning to the public eye. This week, HBO Sports will release a new Craig Carton documentary, Wild Card: The Downfall of a Radio Loudmouth, about the epic rise and fall of the New York sports radio personality. WILD CARD: WHO IS CRAIG CARTON?

Craig Carton is a former New York sports radio personality who was arrested in 2017 on multiple charges of conspiracy and fraud. The shock jock is best known for co-hosting WFAN’s popular Boomer and Carton morning show opposite former NFL player Boomer Esiason. When Boomer and Carton debuted in 2007, it immediately proved popular with listeners, and over the next decade, its popularity exploded as it was simulcast on MSG Network and, later, CBS Sports.

CRAIG CARTON WFAN CAREER AND EVENTUAL DOWNFALL

WFAN’s Carton was a New York radio staple until 2017, when his empire came crashing down. In September of that year, he was arrested on charges of securities fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy for his alleged involvement in a ticket-selling Ponzi scheme. In 2018, Carton was convicted on all charges and sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison and three years probation, and was ordered to pay $5 million in restitution. He began serving his sentence in June 2019, but he was released early from prison in June 2020 after completing a series of programs offered at the federal penitentiary.
