Mulan
After a headline-making premier release on Disney+, the live-action remake of Mulan is now available to purchase on demand! Like its animated predecessor, this action drama tells the story of Hua Mulan, a young Chinese girl who joins the Imperial Army as a man to protect her ailing war hero of a father. But that is where the similarities end. This Niki Caro masterpiece focuses less on talking dragons and more on the honor, bravery and inner-strength that is found in the ancient story. Based on Decider Anna Menta’s review, Mulan’s masterful storytelling, gifted cast and cinematography deserved more than anything to be appreciated on the big screen. If you decided to forego the premium fee on Disney+, you need not wait to watch the amazing live-action Mulan any longer!
Spontaneous
Spontaneous is what happens when you combine a horror film with a YA romantic comedy. But don’t let the basic characteristics fool you, this black comedy film centers on a group of high school teens whose typically-angst-ridden existence is cranked up a notch when some of their classmates start to inexplicably explode. Faced with their own fragile mortalities, high school seniors Mara, Dylan and Tess decide to live like each moment like it might be the last. Starring Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why, Cursed, Knives Out), Charlie Plummer (Boardwalk Empire) and more, Spontaneous is the perfect pseudo-horror flick for those who want to get into the Halloween spirit in a lighter way.

Since we are just weeks away from the spookiest of all holidays, it only made sense to feature one of America’s most classic horror films for this week’s $0.99 iTunes movie rental! Donnie Darko is the psychological thriller where a young Jake Gyllenhaal plays a trouble teen who, after a near-fatal accident, begins to have strange visions of a man in a rabbit suit. The film follows Darko over the course of 28 days as the insect-like talking rabbit convinces him to commit a slew of crimes. Also starring Jenna Malone, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, Patrick Swayze and more, Donnie Darko is a cult classic that combined teen angst, science fiction and social satire so well that it paved the way for shows like Stranger Things to come.
