Pete Davidson Blasts J.K. Rowling’s “Very Disappointing” Transphobic Comments On ‘SNL’ Weekend Update

Last night on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment, Pete Davidson ripped into Fantastic Beasts writer J.K. Rowling for her recent transphobic comments. The show writers also poked fun at Davidson by having him compare himself to Dobby the House-Elf from the Harry Potter franchise “if he became a TikTok rapper.”

When Colin Jost asked what The King of Staten Island star thought of the author’s comments, the comedian replied that her comments were “very disappointing” and that he wishes he would have known not to get any Harry Potter-inspired tattoos.

“I didn’t know that J.K. Rowling was going to go all Mel Gibson,” he said on the late night NBC show.

Earlier this year, Rowling penned a personal essay in an attempt to explain her views on transgender rights. She asserted that certain demands by transgender activists were dangerous to women, a comment that was widely criticized by LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, who labeled it transphobic.

“I long for a few young years ago when the worst things she did were those ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movies. No discrimination there, they harmed us all equally,” joked Davidson.

According to Davidson, Rowling’s comments against the transgender community don’t make any sense to him given her fantasy genre.

“What’s wrong with her? She creates a seven-book fantasy series about all types of mythical creatures living in harmony with wizards and elves and the one thing she can’t wrap her head around is Laverne Cox?” he said rhetorically.

When asked if he’ll boycott Rowling’s books, Davidson admitted that he never read any and that his only experience with the Harry Potter movies was that he once saw Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on a flight. You can check out the clip above.
