Will There Be a ‘Helstrom’ Season 2 on Hulu?

Hulu’s latest Marvel TV show is a whole helluva lot different from what we’ve seen before! Instead of more superheroics, Helstrom takes viewers deep into the darkest corners of the Marvel universe—so dark, you can’t expect to see literally any other Marvel Comics character there. The series follows estranged siblings Daimon Helstrom and Ana Helstrom, the children of a vile and violent serial killer who are cursed with strange, spooky abilities. Making matters worse, their mom is totally possessed by a demon—and there are more demons rising!

If you’ve already binged all of Helstrom Season 1 on Hulu, you’re no doubt wondering when you’ll be able to get another fix of this devilish drama. Here’s everything you need to know about the future of Helstrom.

Does Helstrom Season 1 end on a cliffhanger? Helstrom ending explained

Spoiler alert: you bet it does! The season ends with Team Helstrom mostly reunited and more united than ever. Victoria Helstrom is free of her demon baggage and able to express her gratitude for her children. Daimon and Ana are on the same page, too. And the Helstroms have finally welcomed Daimon and Ana’s foster parents, Louise Hastings and Caretaker, into the family. But there are a few people who are on the outs with the Helstroms.

One of those outsiders is Gabriella, who has hung up her habit and joined up with the Blood organization. Let’s just say that she didn’t like being captured and forced to give birth to a new vessel for the demonic mother. Another outsider is Ana’s former business partner Chris, who it is implied snuck into the Helstrom homestead and kidnapped the newborn baby/vessel.

Fast-forward a month later—we see Chris and a child getting ready to board a ferry. It’s revealed that this is Gabriella and Daimon’s child, who’s grown years in weeks. That makes sense considering that Gabriella went from zero to nine months pregnant in, like, a day. But Chris isn’t the only person who wants the child; a new player played by X-Files alum Mitch Pileggi approaches the two of them. The child recognizes him immediately, calling him “Papa.” He asks her what her real name, to which she replies, “Lily.” He then takes Lily from Chris, causing the humans around him to fall down dead using his supernatural power. Who is this mysterious man? Well, it’s incredibly likely that this is Ana and Daimon’s father—and since Helstrom is called the “son of Satan” in the comics, it seems pretty obvious who Pileggi is playing.

Will there be a Helstrom Season 2? When will Helstrom Season 2 come out?

The bummer is, Helstrom fans, that the odds of there being a Helstrom Season 2 seem incredibly slim. Why? Well, Helstrom is a Marvel show that was made by a production company that no longer exists (Marvel Television), shepherded into existence by an executive producer who is no longer with Marvel (Jeph Loeb), and it’s part of a slate of spooky Marvel shows that have since been given the axe (plans for Ghost Rider fell apart). On top of all that, Hulu has downplayed the show’s Marvel connection.

It’s not like Marvel is out of the TV business, either—they just have a whole lot of other plans going on over on Disney+. Over there, Marvel Studios (the studio that didn’t make Helstrom, mind you) has a lineup of TV shows coming starring characters and actors from the Marvel movies, like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, and more. That’s not counting new originals starring new heroes She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight. There’s a lot going on, and none of it involves Hulu and, most likely, Helstrom.

However. Hulu does have another Marvel show on the way: an animated M.O.D.O.K. series starring Patton Oswalt. That show is expected to arrive in early 2021. Still, both M.O.D.O.K. and Helstrom are the last surviving shows of a much larger lineup. It’s kind of a miracle either of them made it to the finish line (of course M.O.D.O.K. still has a few laps to make). This is all speculation, of course. It doesn’t seem feasible or logical for Marvel Studios to take on another show that it didn’t create. But if Helstrom is a huge hit, who knows? Maybe there’s more Helstrom in the future if the fans turn out—and really turn out. Like, really really really turn out.

Decider will update this article when Hulu makes a decision about Helstrom’s fate.
