Adele “Terrified” to Host ‘SNL’ on October 24

Adele announced yesterday (October 18) that she would be hosting Saturday Night Live on October 24. And while the rest of the world is excited to see her assume the role of host (H.E.R. will be the musical guest), Adele herself is not so sure about it.

On her Instagram post revealing the upcoming appearance, she writes that she is “absolutely terrified” of the job, but credits this insane, abnormal year for making the big decision, saying “if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the deep end with our eyes closed and hope for the best it’s 2020 right?”

Seems like advice we could all use as the world seems to be getting weirder by the day.

Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!! I’ve always wanted to do it as a stand alone moment, so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right. But if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the deep end with our eyes closed and hope for the best it’s 2020 right? Itll be almost 12 years to the day that I first appeared on the show, during an election…which went on to break my career in America, so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possibly say no! I am besides myself that H.E.R will be the musical guest!! I love her SO much I can’t wait to melt into a flaming hot mess when she performs, then confuse myself while I laugh my arse off in between it all. See you next week ♥️🤞🏻

Adele has appeared on the show twice before, both times as the musical guest. On her first appearance, in 2008 alongside host Josh Brolin, she performed “Chasing Pavements” and “Cold Shoulder.” She also appeared on the November 21, 2015 episode hosted by Matthew McConaughey, in which she performed “Hello” and “When We Were Young.”

The 2015 show was a Thanksgiving-themed episode that brought us this now-classic sketch that revealed the power of Adele’s music and its miraculous ability to transcend politics and conflict. Let’s hope her election-week hosting stint can do the same.
