‘Peanuts’ Holiday Specials to Debut on Apple TV+

After a long history of airing on broadcast TV every holiday season, classic Peanuts specials are making their way to Apple TV+. Vulture reports that both It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Christmas will be available to stream on the Apple platform this fall for the first time ever.

While the seasonal Peanuts movies have been broadcast on ABC for the past 20 years (and previously aired on CBS until 2000), it doesn’t sound like the network has any plans to include them in their schedule this year. A source told Vulture that the Peanuts won’t be available to watch on ABC since they’re moving to Apple TV+, and ABC hasn’t included any Peanuts content in their advance programming through November, although a rep for the network “indicated that could change.”

A press release sent out by Apple doesn’t mention Apple TV+ as the new exclusive streaming home for Peanuts, but sources tell Vulture that Apple’s deal grants them full streaming and broadcast exclusivity. But, Apple is lifting their paywall and making some Peanuts specials free for everyone to watch for a limited time.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will be available to non-subscribers — including those without an Apple TV+ account or device — from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1. Later this season, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will be widely available for all viewers Nov. 25 through Nov. 27, shortly after it debuts on Apple TV+ No. 18. A Charlie Brown Christmas, which comes to Apple TV+ Dec. 4, will also be briefly available for non-subscribers.

The news of Apple’s Peanuts deal doesn’t only include the existing movies, though. Apple is reportedly working with WildBrain, Peanuts Worldwide, and Lee Mendelson Film Productions to create its own new Peanuts holiday specials to commemorate Mother’s Day, Earth Day, and New Year’s Eve.

As part of today’s announcement, Apple also revealed a second upcoming season for their series Snoopy In Space, which was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Format Children’s Program.
