Euphoria is officially returning to HBO this winter. After ending with a dramatic Season 1 finale in 2019, the Zendaya starring drama is coming back with two new episodes ahead of the Season 2 premiere. The special episodes will premiere in the coming months, with the first one set to drop Dec. 6 at 9/8c on HBO, also available to stream on HBO Max.

According to HBO’s official announcement, the special episodes will take place after the events of Season 1. “In the aftermath of being left by Jules at the train station and relapsing, the first special episode follows Rue (played by Emmy®-winner Zendaya) as she celebrates Christmas,” today’s press release reads.

The new installments come from series creator Sam Levinson, and the first of the two episodes, titled “Trouble Don’t Last Always” will feature Colman Domingo, who also appeared in season one of Euphoria. We’ll have to wait a bit for information on the second episode, but HBO promises that “the title and date of the second episode are forthcoming.” And of course, both episodes were produced under COVID-19 guidelines.

Zendaya, who also promoted the news on her Instagram today, previously teased a special Euphoria installment during an interview with InStyle. The actress, who was the magazine’s September cover star, told the outlet that she missed her character, Rue, and was looking forward to filming again. “There is a beautiful second season that has been written, but in order to do it the way we want to do it, we need to wait until it’s safer,” she said. “There is an idea to do a couple of bridge episodes that can be shot safely but aren’t necessarily part of Season 2. So, hopefully, we will be able to do those in the coming months. I can’t wait.”

Euphoria, which first debuted in June 2019, stars Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Jacob Elordi and Barbie Ferreira. The show follows a group of high school students dealing with the drama and difficulties of their everyday lives. Zendaya made history this fall with her Emmys win for her work on the show, becoming the youngest actress to be awarded Best Lead Actress in a Drama.
