Adele announced last weekend that she is “terrified” to host the October 24 episode of Saturday Night Live, and has subsequently posted a photo from set that has us excited to see her exercise those comedy chops. But it also has other fans speculating on when we can expect a new Adele album.

Usually when someone is the host or musical guest on Saturday Night Live, they have something to promote: a new film, a new album, a presidential bid.  In her caption above, she writes “3 days to go,” prompting one fan to comment on her post, “HOW MANY UNTIL THE ALBUM,” a comment which currently has 1305 likes. So is there a new Adele album linked to this hosting gig or what?

Adele’s last album, 25, was released in 2015, and her age-based album titles tend to release during significant years in her life. When she turned 31 in 2019, she wrote on her birthday, “30 tried me so hard but I’m owning it and trying my hardest to lean in to it all… Bunch of f—ing savages, 30 will be a drum n bass record to spite you.” In an August 2020 interview, however, she still had “no idea” when a new album would be released. It had previously been thought it would come out in September, but her manager Jonathan Dickins pivoted on that saying “it’ll be ready when it’s ready.” Dang, John, okay.

Our wish, our hope, our dream is that Adele will drop a surprise announcement during her monologue on Saturday’s show with a confirmed release date, we’ll be tuning in to see if it happens.
