‘SNL’ Will Air A Post-Election Episode

Saturday Night Live will be live from New York for a little longer than planned. According to Variety, the NBC comedy series has added one more live show to its Season 46 lineup this fall, scheduling another episode to air not long after the 2020 presidential election.

While SNL previously planned a five-episode season, they’re now gearing up for a sixth show set to air Nov. 7, just days after Election Day. So far, we’ve seen Chris Rock, Bill Burr, and Issa Rae lead episodes this season, but the host and musical guest of SNL‘s post-election show is still a mystery.

SNL has been relying on the election for all of its cold open sketches this season, tapping Jim Carrey to play Democratic nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden, and bringing back Alec Baldwin to take on the role of President Donald Trump. Former SNL cast member Maya Rudolph has returned to play Kamala Harris, and current cast member Beck Bennett has been cast as Vice President Mike Pence.

After filming the remainder of Season 45 from home last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, SNL returned to the studio last month to kick off Season 46, but enforced some strict protocols to keep cast and crew safe. All audience members must take a coronavirus test and check their temperature before entering Studio 8H, and everyone must wear a mask at all times. To keep a live audience and still stick with New York State guidelines, SNL cast its audience and paid audience members $150 to watch the show.

Next up on SNL is Adele, who will take on her first turn as host alongside musical guest H.E.R. Although she’s performed as musical guest twice before (once in 2008 and again in 2015), she admitted to being “absolutely terrified” for this weekend’s show, but we have a feeling she’ll do just fine. Catch Adele’s SNL episode this Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11:30/10:30c on NBC.
