Adele’s ‘SNL’ Episode Ratings Beat The World Series

It turns out, Adele is a draw whether she’s singing or not. For the past week, fans were giddy with anticipation over the announcement that she would be hosting Saturday Night Live, and Adele herself admitted she was terrified of the gig. But there was nothing to worry about because not only did she pull off a great show, the ratings were some of the best the show has seen in recent months — even beating out Saturday’s World Series viewership.

“I know there’s been a lot of chatter about me just being the host, I’ve seen all of it. Like, why isn’t she the musical guest and stuff like that. Well, there’s a couple of reasons,” Adele said in her monologue.

“My album’s not finished,” she continued, answering one of the most burning questions of 2020. “And I’m also too scared to do both. I’d rather just put on some wigs – and this is all mine, by the way – have a glass of wine or six, and just see what happens.”

What happened was the second highest-rated episode of the season, drawing in over 5 million viewers and a 2.4 Nielsen rating, compared to Fox’s broadcast of game 4 of the World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the L.A. Dodgers which had 4.7 million. The rating marks a 28% increase in viewership over last year’s Halloween episode.

Ratings aren’t the only winner. Appearing on the show also gave her own music a boost on the iTunes chart, as five of her singles have reentered the iTunes top 150 sales chart. This week’s musical guest, H.E.R. has also seen a boost to her song “Damage” which is at number 3 on the chart today.

In her monologue Adele told the audience, “I really, really hope that you get as much joy out of this as we’ve had putting it together for you.” It seems she had nothing to worry about.
