Kamala Harris Remains Diplomatic When Discussing The Fly On Mike Pence’s Head on ‘The View’

Vice Presidential nominee Kamala Harris joined the panel on The View this morning, and Whoopi Goldberg did not refrain from setting her up with some questions about the current VP, Mike Pence. Early in the episode, Whoopi brought up the news reports that five members of Pence’s aides, including his chief of staff, have contracted COVID-19 — and that yet despite Pence’s proximity to those infected, he continues to publicly campaign.

“What is the takeaway from him not quarantining?” Whoopi asks the VP hopeful. Kamala responds saying, “I wish his staff well, this virus is not kind.”

But she went in on the Trump/Pence failure to lead during the pandemic, stating, “Donald Trump and Mike Pence, they knew about this. They knew the seriousness of it back in January and they have not, from then on, been direct and helpful to the American people. This is probably one of the greatest mass casualty events in the history of our country short of World War II.”

Later in the segment, Goldberg brought up what might be the most infamous moment from the Vice Presidential debate between Pence and Harris — the fly that landed on Pence’s head. Whoopi simply wanted to know if Harris noticed the fly at the same time that the rest of the viewing audience did.

“Did you see the fly first or did you discover it later?” she asks. The audience braced themselves when they heard that question thusly:

Kamala, always poised during the serious questions, chuckled at Whoopi’s question, but Whoopi wouldn’t let up, putting herself in Harris’s shoes by adding, “I know when I saw it I thought, ‘would I tell him?'”

Harris maintained a sense of diplomacy when she responded, “Fly away from the subject and move on.”

In the words of View co-host Ana Navarro, Harris handled herself like an MVP — Madame Vice President.
