Jon Stewart to Host Current Affairs Series for Apple TV+

Jon Stewart is back! And no, he’s not returning to The Daily Show, but he will be acting as host once again. Stewart is set to lead a new current affairs series at Apple TV+, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The new show, which is still untitled, is part of a multi-year, first-look deal that the host just signed with Apple, which  means we’ll be seeing a lot more of his projects on the streaming platform in the future.

Stewart’s new series, which has already been given multiple seasons, “puts Stewart back in the anchor’s chair as he explores a host of topics at the center of both the national conversation and his own advocacy work,” THR reports. The upcoming project is still untitled, but we know that each episode will be one hour long, and like Daily Show alum John Oliver‘s Last Week Tonight, each installment will be dedicated to a single topic. The host will also executive producer his Apple TV+ series through his Busboy Productions company, and will work with his manager, James Dixon, and Richard Plepler, former HBO CEO.

The Apple TV+ news marks the first time Stewart has announced plans to step back in front of the camera since his departure from The Daily Show in 2015. While Stewart, who lead the Comedy Central show from 1999 to his final year as host before Trevor Noah took over, was The Daily Show host, the series was nominated for over 50 Emmy Awards and earned 20, including 10 consecutive wins for outstanding variety series.

Stewart’s most recent onscreen credit is from 2016, when he appeared as himself in the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But since he stepped away from hosting, he’s been moving behind the camera, directing films like Rosewater and Irresistible. He’s also been focusing on advocacy, testifying on Capitol Hill last year to support funding for 9/11 first responders and their families.
