Will There Be a ‘Holidate 2’ on Netflix?

The holidays have officially come to Netflix! Holidate is the first holiday-filled feature film in Netflix’s festive 2020 lineup, and it is a keeper. The film stars Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey as two snarky singles who hate dealing with all the drama of being single around the holidays. Their solution? They’ll reconnect every few months and be each other’s holidates. That way they’ll never have to go through the agony of not having a plus one for any party!

But if you’ve already watched the film, you’re probably wondering if Holidate will be your holidate. Will Netflix make another Holidate to keep you company next year? Or is this a one-and-done kinda deal? After all, there are two holiday movie sequels in the 2020 lineup. If The Princess Switch and Christmas Chronicles can get follow-ups, then what about Holidate? Here’s what we think is gonna go down with Holidate 2—if there’s gonna be a Holidate 2!

Will there be a Holidate 2 on Netflix?

First, a SPOILER ALERT for the ending of Holidate (but, like, c’mon—you know the ending): Sloane and Jackson decide to spend every holiday together, including the days in between. They’re more than just each other’s holidate; they’re each other’s holisignificant other.

So, where does that leave us regarding Holidate 2? Will there be a Holidate 2? Honestly—probably not, at least not without some significant reworking. In order for a sequel to happen, someone’s gonna need a holidate. And since we don’t want to see Sloane or Jackson break up (please, 2020, let us have their messy love!), maybe a sequel would have to cast two new people. That could work!

If Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey do come back for more, which would be a Christmas miracle, there would have to be some sorta shift to the premise that downplays the holidate angle in favor of something new. Like, I dunno, Holidate 2: Lost in Milwaukee or Holidate: Sloane Saves Christmas.

I think what’s more likely to happen is that, instead of a straightforward Holidate sequel, we’ll probably get another, completely different holiday movie starring Roberts or Bracey—or maybe both of them together again! Netflix is slowly assembling a lineup of holiday movie stars. Vanessa Hudgens and Kat Graham are becoming Netflix’s equivalents of Hallmark’s Lacey Chabert and Candace Cameron Bure. Maybe the same can happen for Roberts and Bracey.

Whether or not Holidate gets a sequel, there is one thing you can count on: you can stream Holidate again next holiday season… as well as on Easter, St. Patricks’ Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day…
