Peacock Cancels ‘Brave New World’ After One Season

After only one season, it’s time to say goodbye to Brave New World. Deadline reports that the sci-fi drama has been canceled at Peacock after debuting on the streaming service earlier this fall.

Brave New World, which is based on the novel by Aldous Huxley, comes from Homecoming’s David Weiner and Grant Morrison. The show was originally intended for the USA Network, but landed at Peacock instead, helping launch the new platform in July as its first and only original scripted series.

“There will not be Season 2 of Brave New World on Peacock,” the streaming platform confirmed to Deadline. “David Wiener created a thought-provoking and cinematic adaptation. We’re grateful to the cast and crew who brought this world to life. We look forward to telling more stories with David in the future.”

The series takes place in New London, a utopian society which has “achieved peace and stability through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself.” When New London citizens Bernard Marx (Harry Lloyd) and Lenina Crowne (Jessica Brown Findlay) take a trip to the Savage Lands, they get swept up in a violent rebellion and are rescued by John the Savage (Alden Ehrenreich), who returns to New London with them. But his arrival threatens to disrupt the peaceful life they’ve established there, and Bernard and Lena must face the consequences.

In his review of Brave New World, Decider’s Joel Keller called the series Peacock’s attempt at Westworld. “Don’t get us wrong; the acting is top-notch across the board, but this just feels like one of those shows where the characters will really find minds of their own a la Westworld or it’ll continue to be antiseptic and dull,” he wrote. “We’re thinking it’s going to be the latter.”

Although the series is done at Peacock, there’s still hope for the future of Brave New World. The show is reportedly being shopped around to other outlets.
