Mindy Kaling to Star in ‘Good in Bed’ HBO Max Adaptation

Mindy Kaling is getting literary for her next role. The Mindy Project actress is set to produce and star in an HBO Max adaptation of Jennifer Weiner ‘s novel “Good In Bed,” Variety reports. For the upcoming film, Kaling is teaming up with Barry‘s Liz Sarnoff, who will write the Good In Bed script.

“Good In Bed,” which was first published in 2001, is Weiner’s debut novel. Kaling will star as the lead character, who is loosely based on the author. According to the official description, the story follows “an up-and-coming journalist in Philadelphia grappling with shaky self-esteem, a fresh-out-of-the-closet mom, an absent father and the guy who broke her heart. In the course of one eventful year, with the help of a fairy godmother best friend (also a movie star), the protagonist weathers public humiliation, finds true love and learns to accept herself, and her life, in all of its messy, imperfect glory.”

Weiner’s book was a hit, earning a spot on the New York Times bestseller list — and staying there for five whole years — and selling more than 11 million copies in total. The author went on to write more successful novels, including “Hungry Heart,” “Big Summer,” and “Mrs. Everything.” And she’s no stranger to seeing her stories onscreen. Her 2002 novel, “In Her Shoes,” was later turned into a movie starring Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, and Shirley MacLaine.

Kaling already has another project lined up with HBO Max, co-writing The Sex Lives of College Girls with Justin Noble. The comedy series is set to star Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Renée Rapp and Alyah Chanelle Scott. And she’s keeping busy with some other shows and movies, too, working on the upcoming Season 2 of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, as well as the new Peacock series Expecting, and untitled wedding comedy from Universal with Priyanka Chopra.
