If you’re going to have a Bourbon Sour before 5pm, consider sipping it from a Chinoiserie Straw.

This, at least, is the moral of the story we took from the Season 7 premiere of Southern Charm. The drinking came when matriarch Patricia Altschul hosted perfectly tousled Shep Rose for a cocktail to advise him on how best to throw a fabulous party (or, at least, fabulous for Shep).

After making sure they had enough liquor in the house, Patricia’s butler, fan fave Michael Kelcourse, served the two frothy, rust color drinks garnished with an orange slice and a slim silver straw with a dangling charm. “It’s a Chinoiserie straw,” Patricia advises Shep. “Not that you would know.” (Zing!)

Discussing the fete, which was themed as a Dumb and Dumber Formal (go figure), also ended up as a good way for Shep to plug his new gal pal, Taylor Ann Green. But new girlfriend be damned, what fans really wanted to know was, where can I get those straws?

Part of an Asian-influenced style which can swing from lacquered furnishings and delicate porcelain to faux bamboo and dragon-laden wallpaper, chinoiserie’s roots trace back to King Louis XV. So, it makes perfect sense that a tastemaker like Patricia would incorporate the iconic design into her day drinking.
