What are SNS Nails? Details on ‘Southern Charm’s Craig Conover’s Manicure

Do you even know what a trendsetter Southern Charm‘s Craig Conover is? Long before nail polish for men became the cool thing to do in 2020, Craig was rocking a single painted nail — and he’s been doing it for over two years now.

Before Kathryn revealed a big old rumor that made him “almost throw up,” viewers enjoyed the two pals having a conversation about nails during the Season 7 premiere of the Bravo series. But there was even more to it than we got to see.

“Next time you get your nails, I have to get mine done because mine are all messed up,” Craig tells Kathryn, who asks, “What salon do you go to?” He tells her that he frequents Nails So Dep, which has a handful of locations around the Charleston area.

“Are you doing gel or SNS?” she asks, and he tells her, “Just SNS” to which she replies with a squeal of delight at that the fact that he even knows what that is.

If you’re not so clear on what that means, this Good Housekeeping article spells it out pretty well: “SNS nails — otherwise known as a “dip powder manicure” — are made with a powder and glue, and the combo creates a long-lasting bond on your nails. SNS is the brand of dip powder and it comes in a whole assortment of colors to pick from. Many people choose this method over gel manicures because it doesn’t require UV light, doesn’t have the acrylic odor that nail polish has, and seems to be the better long-lasting option for anyone with sensitivities or allergies.

But this is nothing new to Craig. He’s been painting his ring fingernail blue for over two years now. The initiative started on behalf of the Polished Man campaign, as the Instagram post below details: “1 in 5 children are subject to physical and/or sexual violence before the age of 18. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness and funds to end violence against children worldwide.”

But hey, this guy is no stranger to charity, as he has frequently helped out with hurricane relief initiatives and is often donating proceeds from his Sewing Down South line to charitable causes as well. But bringing awareness to the Polished Man campaign isn’t just a wonderful cause, it also looks great on Craig too. He’s tested out different shades of blue over the years, but usually goes with a pretty, light baby blue. This guy doesn’t just wear his heart on his sleeve: he’s also got it on his fingernails.
