‘SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run’ Streaming Release Date

Years after he first bounced onto our TV screens, SpongeBob Squarepants remains one of the most lovable cartoon character of the past couple decades. And he’s not going away any time soon — after multiple movies and countless episodes on Nickelodeon, the sponge is back for another, brand-new feature:  The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. 

The latest SpongeBob film was originally set to premiere in theaters, setting an Aug. 7 release date. But, due to the coronavirus pandemic, those plans were scrapped, and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run has yet to hit theaters. Still, that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing SpongeBob, Patrick and the rest of the Bikini Bottom crew eventually.

SPONGEBOB MOVIE RELEASE DATE: WHEN IS THE NEW SPONGEBOB MOVIE COMING OUT?

While The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run was originally set for a May release, and later intended for an Aug. 7 premiere date in the U.S., it’s now been shifted. The movie won’t come out until 2021, when it drops on CBS All Access exclusively. And while that may seem like a while now, we won’t have to wait too long. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run is expected to come out early next year.

IS THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE COMING TO NETFLIX?

Well, it depends on where you live. If you’re in the UK, the answer is yes. The new SpongeBob movie premieres on Netflix tomorrow, Nov. 5, according to Digital Spy. But if you’re in the US, you’re out of luck. Right now, there are no plans for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run to come to Netflix in the states. Your best bet is to catch it on CBS All Access starting next year.

WHO IS IN THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE CAST?

The latest SpongeBob movie cast is packed with some big names. We’ve got Tom Kenny as SpongeBob and Gary, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, and Clancy Brown as Mr. Crabs. But the cast also includes Awkwafina (Otto), Matt Berry (King Poseidon), Keanu Reeves (Sage), Snoop Dogg (The Gambler), Danny Trejo (El Diablo), Tiffany Haddish (Master of Ceremonies) and Reggie Watts (Chancellor).
