Bert Belasco, Star of BET’s ‘Let’s Stay Together,’ Dies at 38

Bert Belasco, star of BET sitcom Let’s Stay Together, has died, Deadline reports. Belasco, who also appeared on Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here and Fox’s Pitch, was 38 years old. At the time of his death, the actor was filming a movie in Virginia and staying in a hotel while quarantining before coming to set.

Belasco, a Second City alum who began his TV career in 2007, had parts on House and Justified before landing the role of Let’s Stay Together‘s Charles Whitmore. Over the years, he also appeared on series like Key & Peele, The Soul Man, NCIS: New Orleans and The Mick.

Tributes to Belasco poured in on Twitter today shortly after the news of his death broke. Jackée Harry, who starred with Belasco on Let’s Stay Together, shared a picture of the two of them on set of the show.

Actress Yvette Nicole Brown also shared a post in honor of Belasco, writing, “I am gutted by this news. Bert was my friend! We had JUST talked last week. He was happy and excited about his new project and all the good that was to come. No day is promised. NO DAY.”

Ken Spears, the co-creator of Scooby Doo, has died from complications related to Lewy body dementia, Variety reports. Spears, co-founder of Ruby-Spears Productions, was 82 years old. In a statement to Variety, Spears’ son Kevin Spears confirmed his father’s death and remembered his legacy. “Ken will forever be remembered for his wit, his story-telling, his loyalty to family, and his strong work ethic,” he said. “Ken has not only made a lasting impression on his family, but he has touched the lives of many as co-creator of ‘Scooby-Doo.’ Ken has been a role model for us throughout his life and he will continue to live on in our hearts.” Spears’ death comes just months after Joe Ruby, his Scooby Doo co-creator, died at age 87 this summer.

Adventure Time: Distant Lands is coming back! HBO Max released a brand new trailer for the special today, per Polygon, and it gives us plenty to get excited about. “Marceline and Princess Bubblegum journey to the imposing, beautiful Glass Kingdom — and deep into their tumultuous past — to prevent an earthshaking catastrophe,” the official Obsidian description reads. By the looks of the trailer, this time around the focus is all on Marceline the Vampire Queen and Princess Bubblegum, but we’ve also got a new character, Glassboy.
