‘All My Life’ True Story: Meet the Inspirational Couple Behind the Movie

If you’re planning to watch Universal’s new drama All My Life, you may want to have some tissues ready  — and likely a few just to watch the trailer, which you can catch in the video above. The Marc Meyers movie tells the story of Solomon and Jennifer, a couple whose relationship looks like the stuff of any other romance at first, but soon takes a tragic turn.

Just as they’re planning their wedding and preparing to live the rest of their lives together, Solomon gets a sobering cancer diagnosis that takes a turn for the worse when it spreads through his body, cruelly and abruptly cutting his future short. Still, Jennifer is determined to marry him regardless of his diagnosis, and with help from friends, family and even strangers, they put on the wedding they never thought was possible.

The tear-jerker is certainly fit for the big screen, but it’s actually a real story about a Canadian couple who planned their wedding while dealing with a devastating cancer diagnosis.

Here’s everything you need to know about All My Life and the true story behind the emotional new drama.

ALL MY LIFE TRUE STORY: MEET SOLOMON CHAU AND JENNIFER CARTER

All My Life is based on the true story of a Toronto couple named Solomon Chau and Jennifer Carter, who met at Chau’s 19th birthday and soon became inseparable. After dating for a while, Chau proposed to Carter with a flash mob and the two set a wedding date for Aug. 21, 2015. But not long after proposing, Chau received a terminal cancer diagnosis and the couple had no choice but to push their wedding up to April 11, 2015, according to The Toronto Star. Thanks to donations from friends and strangers online, the couple was able to raise over $50,000 for their impromptu wedding after Chau was told he would the cancer had spread and he would not live long enough to get married in August. Chau died at age 26 four months after his wedding, and just eight months after he was diagnosed with liver cancer.

In a letter released with the All My Life trailer, Carter said it was “an honor” to share her and Chau’s story with the world. “Every love story has its highs and lows, and mine and Sol’s was no different,” she wrote. “In the year that he proposed to me during a flash mob, orchestrated with the help of our family and friends, Sol was also diagnosed with liver cancer. We were two very ordinary individuals who found ourselves in a very extraordinary situation. We had the choice to either give in to the fear that Sol’s cancer prognosis had laid upon us, or, to move forward with every ounce of love and support we’d be given, making the most of our time we had left together. Our family and friends, our community, and even complete strangers stepped in to help make the last few months of Sol’s life memorable.”
