Inside Netflix’s ‘Don’t Look Up’ Boston Filming Locations

Adam McKay‘s upcoming Netflix film Don’t Look Up has begun shooting this week, bringing a horde of A-list celebs to an on-location set. Some early photos have revealed an inside look at the location, the stars rolling up to film, and Jennifer Lawrence‘s new bangs.

Don’t Look Up will mark McKay’s first feature collaboration with Netflix. The original film will be a genre-blending dark satire with hints of science fiction, and it boasts a cast packed with Hollywood’s favorite celebs. Two astronomers, played by Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio, must convince the world about the dangers of a massive meteorite headed towards Earth.

With McKay’s line-up of director credits — from The Big Short to Succession — and the stars already cast, Don’t Look Up is certainly one of Netflix’s most-anticipated films. But where is it being filmed, and can you visit the set? Here’s everything you need to know:

What is the Don’t Look Up filming location? Where is Don’t Look Up filming?

Don’t Look Up is currently filming in downtown Boston. Lead stars Lawrence and DiCaprio have already arrived and begun filming, starting at the South Station and filming with an Acela express train as their backdrop. Fans arrived to watch the shoot, and a few extras were hired as passengers at South Station.

COVID protocols were implemented on set: there were sanitization stations at South Station, as well as required masks or other face protection. All extras were required to have tested negative before coming to set.

Last week, crews also headed out west to Framingham to shoot. But in order to keep the production safe and isolated amid COVID concerns, producers have kept most of the filming locations of Don’t Look Up under wraps. That being said, the production in Boston is said to last throughout the end of this year and well into next.

When will Don’t Look Up be released?

Don’t Look Up is slated to be released sometime next year in 2021. Filming in Boston is said to continue until Feb. 2021, so don’t expect it until later on next year.

That being said, casting director Judith Bouley has released a call for extras in Don’t Look Up. “We need people of all ages, sizes, and ethnicities to potentially work as paid background actors!” the listing says. You can apply over at Bouley’s website.
