It was only a matter of time before we got our first Covid-themed movie. Enter Songbird, a new sci-fi thriller based on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Set in the year 2024, Songbird follows a virus-immune courier as he attempts to fight back against the government’s COVID-23 restrictions (because, yes, there’s now a new strain of the coronavirus) and reunite with his girlfriend.
While it remains to be seen whether Songbird is an over-exaggeration or a prescient take on our current moment, viewers isolated at home may see themselves reflected in the thriller. What is the Songbird release date? Is there a COVID-23 movie trailer yet? Here’s everything you need to know!
WHAT IS THE SONGBIRD MOVIE ABOUT?
While the COVID-19 vaccine is already being distributed, Songbird imagines a world where the pandemic continues unabated for four years. In the year 2024, the virus has mutated to become COVID-23, and the U.S. government has begun quarantining infected Americans into camps known as Q-Zones, from which there is no escape. However, when a bike courier with immunity learns that his girlfriend may have been exposed, he races through the streets of dystopian Los Angeles to save her from imprisonment.
Songbird was the first feature film produced in Los Angeles during COVID-19, so at least fans are getting a side of history with their pandemic-themed entrée.

SONGBIRD MOVIE: WHERE TO WATCH THE THRILLER
Viewers won’t even have to leave home to watch Songbird. The dystopian flick will stream on Video on Demand (VOD) on a variety of different platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu, FandangoNow, and Google Play.
WILL SONGBIRD BE ON NETFLIX?
As of now, there are no plans for Songbird to hit Netflix. That said, it’s possible that Netflix could purchase rights to the film in the months ahead.

Songbird may have been produced under COVID-19 restrictions, but you’d never know from the stellar cast list. The new movie, produced by Transformers alum Michael Bay, stars KJ Apa, Sofia Carson, Bradley Whitford, Demi Moore, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Walter Hauser, Craig Robinson, and Peter Stormare.
