Disney Announces New ‘Star Wars’ Series ‘Andor,’ ‘Ahsoka’, and ‘Rangers of the New Republic’

The Force is with Disney+. The streamer has finally released additional information about its forthcoming Star Wars slate, which includes a new season of The Mandalorian, spinoff series Rangers of the New Republic and  Ahsoka, Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor series Andor, and Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, plus much, much more.

As part of the presentation, Disney revealed that The Mandalorian Season 3 will debut on Christmas Day 2021. The two spinoff series will be set at the same time as The Mandalorian, and all three will culminate in a “climactic story event,” the company teased.

In addition, Disney announced that Andor began production on its 12-episode season two weeks ago. A spinoff featuring Diego Luna’s character from Rogue One, Andor follows Rebel agent Andor as he navigates the early days of the Rebellion. In addition to Luna, Alan Tudyk will reprise his role as droid sidekick K-2SO. Genevieve O’Reilly (as Mon Mothma), Stellan Skarsgard, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Adria Arjona will also appear in the Star Wars spinoff series.

No premiere date has been set for Andor, but Disney+ teased that it will be “coming soon.”

Next up on the Star Wars docket is Obi-Wan Kenobi, starring Ewan McGregor. Obi-Wan Kenobi will take place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and will feature the return of Hayden Christensen as iconic villain Darth Vader. Production on the drama is slated to begin in March 2021.

But that’s not all. Disney+ will also debut a new animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch, animated short series Star Wars: Visions, and Lando, a Lando Calrissian-centered series from Dear White People‘s Justin Simien.

Disney also revealed new information about Leslye Headland’s female-led series, which has been titled The Acolyte. According to the company, The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

On the theatrical front, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins will direct the next Star Wars epic, Rogue Squadron, which is slated for a December 2023 release. Jenkins shared a video discussing her involvement in the Star Wars franchise, which fans can check out below.
