Happy Friday, everyone! We are continuing the countdown until 2021, and each day we get closer it looks like the world gets just a little bit brighter. While we might attribute it to the weather outside or the holiday feeling in the air, this author would like to think it has to do with all the great movies that have been fast-tracking themselves to your home screens lately. Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s service, the best movies streaming now are coming out in heaps for you to dig into this weekend. But where should you start? Worry not, we here at Decider are here to help yo figure out what to watch.

This week has been a committment-phobe’s dream week, as evidenced by the crazy amount of films available to rent below. But to start, be sure to check out the superhero action film Archenemy, the pandemic thriller Songbird, and perhaps the romance film Rocky Mountain Thyme. And of course we cannot forget Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone, Francis Ford Coppola’s new edit on the original 1990 The Godfather film. With a new beginning and a new end, perhaps what is known to be the weakest link in the trilogy might not be so weak after all.

What are the best movies to watch right now? Check out the great thrillers, comedies and action flicks you can buy or rent this weekend.

Songbird

The ongoing pandemic is keeping many people from their loved ones this year, and in Songbird we see that play out on the big screen. This mystery thriller is set in 2024, in a world where the already-debilitating pandemic has taken new form in COVID-23 (yes, it has gotten worse). KJ Apa stars as a virus-immune courier who attempts to fight back against the government restrictions to reunite with his girlfriend and save her from a quarantine camp. It may not be a completely-accurate look into our future, but people are sure to identify with the longing that seeps through this film in a really personal way. It was only a matter of time until we saw a pandemic film, and Songbird is just the beginning.

Archenemy

Joe Manganiello was made to be a superhero, and he finally gets to become one in Archenemy, the mystery action thriller that is premiering on VOD this weekend. The Magic Mike star plays Max Fist, a mysterious man who loses his superpowers when he arrives from another dimension. Out of his element, he teams up with a young teen to wipe out a local drug syndicate and the vicious crime boss who runs it. If you’re looking for gritty gunfights and a dirty Manganiello, be sure to check out Archenemy.

Then Came You

Former Today Show host Kathie Lee Gifford’s latest project is Then Came You, a romantic comedy about finding love in the most unexpected places. Gifford wrote, produced and stars in the film, playing a recently-widowed woman who embarks on an international trip with her husband’s ashes. But as she makes a stop in Scotland, she meets a widowed innkeeper named Howard (played by Craig Ferguson) and falls in love. The already-complicated scenario becomes even more so when it turns out Howard is engaged to a stunning woman (none other than Elizabeth Hurley) already! Sweet, funny and wholesome, Then Came You is a feel-good flick that is now available to rent for just $0.99 on demand.
