The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud via Zoom for all to hear! On Sunday, the cast of beloved holiday classic Elf reunited for a virtual table read to benefit the Democratic Party of Georgia. The reunion followed the cast as they recreated some of the most iconic Elf movie scenes, including Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel’s bathroom duet, their final singalong — to “Jingle Bells” instead of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” — and more. As Buddy the Elf says, “There’s room for everyone on the Nice List!”

ELF MOVIE REUNION: WILL FERRELL, ZOOEY DESCHANEL, AND MORE STARS REUNITE

Come one, come all for Elf‘s virtual table read! With the Georgia Senate runoff just a few days away, the Elf cast reunited on Sunday afternoon for a virtual fundraiser to benefit Democratic candidates Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock. The Elf movie reunion saw stars Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel join forces with a host of special guests, including John Lithgow, Wanda Sykes, Ed Helms, and Ashley Nicole Black (the event’s host).

At the end of the event, Helms revealed that the assembled guests would not be able to perform Elf‘s final number, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” due to a rights issue. “Apparently, we think that perhaps Republicans own the rights to that song because we got an unkind email when we asked for the rights to do it today,” joked Helms. “That’s what I heard anyway. Who knows?”

Unkind email or not, the Elf cast made a quick pivot and concluded with a rousing rendition of “Jingle Bells.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, when all was said and done, the event raised $402,966, surpassing organizers’ $400,000 goal.
