If you haven’t already heard, TV’s reigning Queen of Steam, Shonda Rhimes, moved her empire from ABC (home of her beloved, and still running, Grey’s Anatomy) to Netflix. And, we’ll (finally!) get to see her first made-for-streaming series, because Christmas Day is the Bridgerton release date.

Trading in doctor’s scrubs for corsets and jewels, Rhimes based this decadent period drama, set in early 1800s Regency London high society, on a series of uber popular romance novels called, yup, Bridgerton.

Written by Julia Quinn (a pseudonym for Julie Pottinger), a Harvard grad and one of 16 authors inducted into the Romance Writers Hall of Fame, the series is eight novels in total with one collection of second epilogies and a bonus novella.

The series debuted with The Duke and I in 2000, which spent three weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, five weeks on the USA Today bestseller list and was named one of the Ten Best Romances of 2000 by the editors at Amazon. It will also serve as the story behind the first season of the Netflix series. But most importantly, the entire series of “Bridgerton” books are smart, fun, and as bingeable as watching Meredith and McDreamy fall in love. We don’t want to give away any spoilers, but if you’re ready to plunge into these sexy, witty novels peppered with fast, plithy dialogue, now may be the time.

Want to join the fascinating Bridgerton family, before you see them on your TV? You can grab the first nine books in e-book form, as a Kindle bundle for just $64 (yup, that’s just $7 a book). Or purchase each them individually or in smaller bundles for yourself or the Shondaland lover in your life, in any format you choose.
