Video games and movies have always gone hand in hand. And though your favorite cultural crossovers, like 2003’s Enter the Matrix or the 2009 hit, Batman: Arkham Asylum, may be a little dated, a handful of new games are now available, allowing you to burrow even deeper into the story and characters of your favorite films.

So, whether this holiday season gifted you with one of the hard to nab next-gen new video game consoles, or you’re still waiting for stores to replenish their stock, here are seven of our favorite updated movie-based video games you can buy (or pre-order) right now.

This survival horror video game is set 15 years after Ellen Ripley left earth and allows you to play as her daughter, Amanda Ripley—who uses the recovered flight recorder from her mother’s ship to find out what really happened all those years ago. With a slick, nostalgic intro to get you in the mood, you will spend most of your time in aforementioned isolation in the Sevastopol space station being hunted by another creepy alien. Available for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch

If you’re waiting patiently for the 2021 release of the Batman family saga, Gotham Knights, you’ll appreciate this stylish Lego adventure, which lets you play as destructive super-villains within the DC universe. Combining comedy and action, Lego DC Villains takes place in a world where all your favorite superheroes have disappeared, leaving only the newly created “Justice Syndicate.” This crew of barely disguised baddies turns out to be their counterparts from a parallel universe—here to wreak havoc along with the DC villains you know and love, like Harley Quinn and The Joker (the latter, incidentally, is voiced by Mark Hamill). We love this game because you get to personally craft your own super villain—from how you look to all your favorite powers. Great fun for adults, this is also a perfect family game to play with the kids, if you feel like sharing, that is.

Available for Xbox, PlayStation and PC

This cinematic Star Wars adventure takes place between episodes three and four, darkly mirroring the aftermath of Darth Vader and Palpatine’s epic purge of the Jedis. As the former Padawan, Cal Kestis in this third-person action game, you must complete your training and help rebuild the Order of the Jedis. No pressure. Of course, since you’ve been in hiding for so long, you’ll have to reacquaint yourself with your powers, all while  upgrading and customizing your lightsaber as you move forward in your adventure. As a single-player game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will appeal to anyone who loves the movies, while it concentrates not just on combat but also on engaging exploration and creative puzzles.

Available for Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch

Thankfully, you won’t be running from velociraptors in Jurassic World Evolution because in this simulation game, you’ll be running the show. In addition to high profile voiceovers by Jeff Goldblum, B.D. Wong and Bryce Dallas Howard, you’re tasked with building your parks across five different islands, then populating them with the 42 species of awesomely detailed dinosaurs which you must unlock and create with digital genomes. Of course, then you have to deal with making sure you make suitable cash while simultaneously keeping up your “park rating,” which means helping customers stay happy (and hopefully healthy) with services and transportation. Come for the business savvy you’ll feel while creating your own theme park, but stay for those terrific, lumbering dinosaurs.
