‘Euphoria’s Second Special Episode Gets Early HBO Max Premiere

Euphoria‘s second special episode, “F*ck Anyone Who’s Not a Sea Blob,” will premiere early on HBO Max this Friday, January 22, two days ahead of its HBO debut. The special episode will follow Jules (Hunter Schafer) over the Christmas holiday as she reflects on her tumultuous relationship with Rue, played by Zendaya.

Directed by Sam Levinson and co-written by Levinson and Schafer, Euphoria: Part Two: Jules sees Jules revisit the many highs and lows of her friendship with Rue. A trailer released by HBO teases the emotional special, which will serve as a companion piece to Part One: Rue. “Rue was the first girl who didn’t just look at me,” says Schafer’s voice over, in what seems akin to a therapy session. “She actually saw me. The me that’s underneath a million layers of not-me.”

When a voice asks Jules why she chose to run away rather than stay in town with Rue, as fans saw at the end of the Euphoria Season 1 finale, Jules isn’t able to come up with a definite answer. Instead, memories of her childhood, her father, and her passionate relationship with Rue flash on screen, some happy, others painful. The brief teaser suggests that “F*ck Anyone Who’s Not a Sea Blob” will attempt to answer the question of why Jules left, although it’s likely that fans won’t be given a neat and tidy answer (this is Euphoria, after all).

Like the first episode, Euphoria: Jules was conceived and produced entirely under COVID-19 guidelines. The hit HBO drama shut down production in March due to the pandemic, and apart from the two special episodes, it has not yet resumed filming Season 2.

Euphoria: Part 2: Jules will stream Friday, January 22 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on HBO Max. Fans looking to watch the special episode during its originally-scheduled time can catch it this Sunday, January 24 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
