Dave Chappelle Question Stumps ‘Jeopardy’ Contestants in Disastrous Flub

Clearly, last night’s Jeopardy contestants need to spend less time studying and more time streaming. In what can only be described as a total fail, all three Jeopardy contestants were completely stumped when given a clue about legendary comedian Dave Chappelle. The pop culture flub was promptly dragged on Twitter, where users took the contestants to task for being unable to identify Chappelle — even after they were shown a photo. Come on, guys.

As reported by Yahoo, Wednesday’s Double Jeopardy round featured a category called “Funny Business,” a comedy-focused category about big-name stars. When it came time to answer a question from the category, the Jeopardy contestants were shown a photo of Chappelle and given the clue, “This comedian displayed his drama chops in A Star is Born, playing Bradley Cooper’s longtime friend.”

Despite the relatively easy question — and again, they were given a photo of Chappelle! — none of the contestants even bothered to buzz in with an answer. After an awkward pause, interim host Ken Jennings informed the contestants that “that’s Dave Chappelle,” but he spared them any additional commentary. Sure, civility is appreciated, but those three really deserved Alex Trebek’s trademark sass after that disastrous flub.

Luckily, viewers at home were happy to provide some much-needed scorn. “The fact they ain’t know Dave Chappelle on Jeopardy baffles me,” wrote one fan. “How did no one on Jeopardy know who Dave Chappelle [is]? I even knew Dave didn’t have Twitter,” said another. Another fan made their disdain clear: “Nerds.”

And that wasn’t even the only mistake made on Wednesday’s episode. During Final Jeopardy, contestant Alex Cohn accidentally mixed up custard, the pudding-like dessert, with Army officer George Armstrong Custer, who was killed while leading a cavalry regiment in the Battle of the Little Bighorn. As of press time, custard has not yet met a “violent end,” although you never know when a trend will fall out of favor with the masses.
