HBO’s ‘Allen v. Farrow’ to Examine Woody Allen Assault Claims

HBO is digging into the scandal-ridden relationship between Mia Farrow and Woody Allen in their upcoming documentary, Allen v. Farrow. The four-part series, which comes from investigative filmmakers Kirby Dick, Amy Ziering and Amy Herdy, explores the couple’s tumultuous relationship and split, which blew up when Allen was accused of sexually abusing the couple’s then-seven year old daughter, Dylan, and engaging in a relationship with their adopted daughter, Soon-Yi.

“Once celebrated for their on and off-screen partnership, Farrow and Allen’s lives were irrevocably fractured and their sprawling family torn apart with the public disclosure of the abuse allegations and the vitriolic disputes that followed,” HBO teased in today’s release for the docuseries.

Using new investigative work, never-before-heard audio, and interviews with experts and witnesses, Allen v. Farrow examines the scandals surrounding the couple, the fallout for Allen and his work, and how the trauma affected their family. Mia Farrow, Dylan Farrow, Ronan Farrow, family friend and musician Carly Simon, prosecutor Frank Maco, and other relatives, investigators, and more will be featured in the upcoming doc. “Who on Earth could believe that about Woody Allen?” Farrow says in today’s trailer. “I couldn’t believe it.”

While Allen has never been formally charged with a crime and denies that he molested his daughter, the scandal has continued to follow the filmmaker throughout his career. Allen once again denied any wrongdoing in his memoir, “Apropos of Nothing,” which was published by Arcade last year after being dropped by its original publisher, Hachette.

“Hachette’s publishing of Woody Allen’s memoir is deeply unsettling to me personally and an utter betrayal of my brother [Ronan Farrow] whose brave reporting, capitalized on by Hachette, gave voice to numerous survivors of sexual assault by powerful men,” Dylan Farrow said in a statement before Hachette dropped the book. “For the record, I was never contacted by any fact checkers to verify the information in this memoir, demonstrating an egregious abdication of Hachette’s most basic responsibility. On the other hand, my story has undergone endless scrutiny and has never been published without extensive fact checking.”

Allen v. Farrow premieres Sunday, Feb. 21 at 9/8c on HBO, with new episodes airing weekly on Sundays at the same time. Allen v. Farrow will also be available to stream on HBO Max. Watch the full trailer for Allen v. Farrow in the video above.
