‘Southern Charm’ Star Austen Kroll’s Trop Hop Beer Is Not Just a Success — It’s Also Tasty

There was a lot to take away from Part 2 of the Southern Charm reunion, but one major element should be that Austen Kroll’s Trop Hop beer is, by all means, a success. It’s the first from his King’s Calling Brewing company and also, it is damn tasty. I tried the beer back in 2019 and highly enjoyed it, and I’m generally not so much of a beer drinker. But the light and fruity taste is real nice, especially on a warm day.

When host Andy Cohen asked what the latest was with the beer, Austen told him, “When I moved it into cans is when everything just changed around for me. Every single Harris Teeter and Publix — gone in two weeks when it was supposed to last for eight to ten.” This also means that Austen met with Leva Bonaparte’s husband Lamar to discuss how they could work together, which is excellent news for Austen as they own four highly successful Charleston establishments.

Of course, when the legitimacy of his business was questioned by ex Madison LeCroy, Craig Conover sprung to his buddy’s defense, shouting, “He’s got his beer in grocery stores!” and further pointing out, “No one here can walk into a store and buy their product except for Austen.” Even Craig is hoping to open a brick and mortar store later this year in Charleston, and in the meantime, the two have embarked on another business adventure: their new podcast, Pillows and Beer.

Even Danni Baird chimed in to add of the milestone, “I worked for an alcohol distributor and I will say, it’s not easy to get a craft beer into a retail store.”

And it takes time to grow a business like his! While Trop Hop is proving to be popular in Charleston, as we saw early in the season when crowds at the wine and food festival gathered around his booth for a sample of the beer, Austen told us back in December that he’s working on bringing Trop Hop to more states around the country, too. In the meantime, if you can’t get it on your taste buds, you can still represent on the rest of your body as his website currently sells hats, shirts, and other merch.
