Firefly Lane, an emotional and inspirational tale about two life-long friends, is now a streaming series on Netflix. But before you could laugh, cry and fall in love with Kate (Sarah Chalke) and Tully (Katherine Heigl), it was a series of novels by Kristin Hannah, the eponymous Firefly Lane ($9.99) and Fly Away ($11.99).

Firefly Lane spans three decades of friendship in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. And though the Netflix series jumps around in time, the first book starts in 8th grade and proceeds in a more linear manner.

Here we are invited into the girls lives as their spectacular friendship is sparked. Glamorous Tully moves in across the street (or lane as it may be) from bookish Kate and against all odds, the girls connect. The rest of the book allows the reader to follow a gloriously dramatic yet heartrending story of a pair of soul mates finding their way through life. Together.

The second novel in the series, Fly Away, not only gives us more information on Tully’s life before Firefly Lane, including her relationship with her mother, but picks up where the first book left off—using motherhood as a theme to tie it all together.

Resting on the shoulders of giants like Beaches and Steel Magnolias, you might want to a add box of tissues to your cart before you purchase these bestselling books.
