What happened on RPDR UK Season 2 Episode 4 ?

This week’s rollercoaster ride started with a mini challenge tangentially inspired by The Great British Bake-Off. The queens each had to present a pastry to the group. That’s it. Some went sexy (Tayce), some went dirty (Lawrence Chaney), some went political (Bimini Bon-Boulash), some went loud (Veronica Green), and some went nowhere (Ellie Diamond). Bimini won with her Brexit puns and got the to pick her role in the morning news improv challenge first. She chose to play a Gen Z Party Animal, and Tayce joined her. Arch-rivals Tia Kofi and A’Whora chose to team up as financial expert girls from Essex, even though they just had a tense altercation. Ginny Lemon eagerly took on the role of a hippie weather reporter. Ellie and Lawrence reunited to play a pair of pre-school presenters. And Veronica and Sister Sister were stuck as goth party planners.

In the maxi challenge, Bimini and Tayce killed it as slutty co-anchors… and then Veronica and Sister killed all the momentum with a dreary segment. But at least Tia and A’Whora knew how to put their differences aside and camp it up!

Lawrence and Ellie put on a show for the children, while Ginny Lemon’s full-throttle weather presentation ultimately left the judges feeling sour. Know what was sweet, though? Tia and A’Whore having a sincere heart to heart while getting ready for the runway. Are they going from enemies to frenemies to… friends?!

On the main stage, category was Monster Mashup. Bimini and A’Whora earned praise for their gutsy performances, but their runway looks fell just a little bit short. That left Lawrence Chaney, wearing a Bride of Leatherface outfit, as the week’s winner. Veronica’s Medusa pig eleganza saved her from making up half of the bottom two, leaving BFF’s Sister Sister and Ginny Lemon to duel to “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” By Kim Wilde. Except, instead of lip syncing, Ginny sashayed away on her own while Sister slayed the first verse.

Just to editorialize a bit: what Ginny Lemon did was not disrespectful. She was just diagnosed with a chronic pain disorder, she could tell the judges weren’t feeling her even when she was giving it her all, she knew that Sister Sister wanted to be there more. Why would she fight against a friend to stay in a competition she knows she can’t win, one that’s causing her physical pain? Also, the show doesn’t even have a cash prize! What she did was not disrespectful. It’s more disrespectful to intentionally ignore people with fibromyalgia—a disease that doctors often ignore, which makes it hard for people to get diagnosed. Listen to Ginny when she says that she is “knackered.” She did what she had to do.

Anyway—next week, the queens have to deal with a real world maxi challenge: COVID-19.
