Tonight is Ken Jennings’ Final Night as ‘Jeopardy’ Host

Today marks Ken Jennings last night as interim host of Jeopardy, a role he took after the death of longtime host Alex Trebek last November. Jennings, who has been hosting the show since early January, will step aside after this evening’s episode and leave the host podium open for the next Jeopardy stand-in, executive producer Mike Richards, Today reports.

Richards will have his turn in front of the camera as Jeopardy‘s new guest host, taking over starting with Monday’s episode. “I was very fortunate to have a front row seat to watch and study Alex,” Richard said in a statement, per Jeopardy.com. “Stepping in as a guest host was incredibly humbling, emotional and a lot of fun. It will forever be the honor of my life.”

While he’s known for his work behind the scenes, Richards has some hosting experience of his own. Aside from his role as executive producer for Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, Richards has also hosted five series, including a news program, the reality show Beauty and the Geek, and Game Show Network’s Pyramid. He previously served as executive producer on The Price Is Right and Let’s Make a Deal, and has earned 17 Emmy nominations over the course of his career.

Richards’ hosting gig will kick off Feb. 22 and run through March 5, after which he’ll hand over the stage to journalist Katie Couric, who is up next as host. “It is such a thrill to be here guest hosting a show I’ve watched for years, and a real honor to help as we recover after Alex,” Couric shared in a statement.

After Couric, the show will will welcome Dr. Mehmet Oz, Host of The Doctor Oz Show, followed by NFL star Aaron Rodgers, NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie, Anderson Cooper 360° anchor Anderson Cooper, Big Bang Theory star and Neuroscientist Mayim Bialik, 60 Minutes‘ Bill Whitaker, and finally, CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Jeopardy has not yet named a formal replacement to take over for Trebek.

New episodes of Jeopardy air weeknights at 7/6c on ABC.
