What is Nexus? ‘WandaVision’ May Have Just Set Up Marvel’s Multiverse

WandaVision Episode 7 “Breaking the Fourth Wall” finally gave up the ghost, er, witch. Has Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) been the bad guy all this time? Nope! As a jaunty jingle tells us, it was “Agatha All Along.” Mega-spoiler warning, but nosy neighbor Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) revealed herself to be none other than legendary Marvel sorceress Agatha Harkness, the true architect of WandaVision. (Something that we, cough, theorized before the show even started.)

Still the Agatha Harkness reveal doesn’t explain everything in WandaVision. However the weekly commercials might. After last week’s dark yogurt commercial for “Yo Magic” suggested that someone might be leeching off of Wanda’s magic, this week’s fake ad teased that WandaVision is possibly going to introduce Marvel’s Nexus of All Realities. Is Man-Thing next? Does this mean WandaVision leads directly to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness? Is Agatha Harkness using the Darkhold? And does that mean an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. crossover is nigh?!?

Here’s what we know about that Nexus commercial in WandaVision and how it possibly connects to Nexus in Marvel Comics.

WHAT IS NEXUS IN WANDAVISION?

Nexus is the fake prescription drug being sold in the WandaVision Episode 7 “Breaking the Fourth Wall” commercial. Besides being a weird reminder of how prescription drug commercials have flooded airwaves in the 2000s, Nexus seems to be suggesting a possible solution to Wanda’s problems.

The advert opens on a sad woman alone on a park bench, a clear stand in for the depressed Wanda of this episode. The narrator of the commercial straight up asks: “Feeling depressed? Like the world goes on without you? Do you just want to be left alone?”

“Ask your doctor about Nexus. A unique anti-depressant that works to anchor you back to your reality. Or the reality of your choice,” the ad continues. “Nexus, because the world doesn’t revolve around you. Or does it?”

So a couple things here. “Nexus” could be the explanation for what has created Westview in the first place. After all, the town is an alternate reality seemingly built to revolve around a grieving Wanda. However, Nexus has another meaning in the larger Marvel Comics universe. And if WandaVision is teasing that Nexus, then things are about to get a whole lot crazier in the MCU…

WHAT IS MARVEL’S NEXUS, THE NEXUS OF ALL REALITIES?

Marvel comics readers will immediately recognize Nexus as a possible reference to the Nexus of All Realities. It’s kind of a hub or crossroads where every alternate universe in Marvel intersects, and people can travel between worlds in the Multiverse. Coincidentally, the Nexus of All Realities is supposed to be located in Florida and is tied to the birth of Man-Thing. (ARE WE GETTING MAN-THING, FEIGE?!?)

Why is this exciting? Well, we already know that WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen is appearing in the next Doctor Strange film, shooting now, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. The Multiverse has already been teased in Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Nexus could be the catalyst for opening up the next Phase of Marvel Multiverse stories.

Indeed, Nexus is a big deal in a lot of Doctor Strange stories, so we could have our umpteenth clue that WandaVision is going to set up the next magical Marvel film. And hoo boy…WandaVision is finally embracing all things magic!

IS AGATHA HARKNESS USING THE DARKHOLD IN WANDAVISION?

Up until recently, Wanda Maximoff’s powers have been attributed to the power of the Mind Stone. She’s a superhero with Infinity Stone powers. That’s it. However WandaVision is leaning hard to the mystical, magical “Scarlet Witch” side of Wanda. Right down to the Agatha Harkness reveal where she straight up says Wanda’s not the only magical lady in town.

Not only that, but we discover that inside Agatha’s house is what appears to be a dark magic temple, complete with occult symbols, glowing vines, and a book.

Uh…so was that the Darkhold? A legendary tome full of dark magic from Marvel lore in Agatha’s creepy basement? And if the Darkhold was in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. then what does this all mean?!?

Well, we don’t know yet. Traditionally speaking, the Darkhold has a lowercase “d” on the cover, which this book does not, so it might not be the Darkhold. That said, the fact that it’s a dark magical book in a Marvel show suggests it could be the Darkhold. It’s too soon to tell!

We’ll have to wait until next week’s WandaVision to learn more about Agatha Harkness’s backstory, her masterplan, and who the heck Evan Peters’s Fake Pietro is. And who is Jimmy Woo’s missing person? And is Reed Richards showing up? AND WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TWINS!?!?

WandaVision might have given us a lot of answers this week, but we still have a lot of questions.
