‘Men in Kilts’ Episode 2: Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish Spill on that Skinny-Dipping Scene

Men in Kilts  Episode 2 is theoretically about Scottish sports, but it will forever be remembered as the Great Skinny-dipping Challenge. Thanks to a little bet between stars Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish, this episode of Men in Kilts ends with a bit of nudity. But not sexy nudity. Painful, cringing-in-ice-cold-seas nudity. It was such a wild moment that it’s likely to get Outlander fans chattering all over the world. Decider learned that Men in Kilts stars Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish are still bickering over it to this day!

Men in Kilts is a docuseries following Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish as they travel through Scotland, one dram of whiskey at a time. Each episode of the series focuses on a different cornerstone of Scottish culture. In Men in Kilts Episode 2 the focus is Sport. Early on Heughan and McTavish establish a little competition to make their tour of Scottish sport more interesting. They will go head-to-head in everything from Highland Game-style hammer tosses to golfing on St. Andrews Green. The winner gets…nothing. The loser has to go skinny-dipping in the North Atlantic.

Though it seems Sam has the edge — after he triumphantly lifts a big bolder from the ground and onto a stone plinth — Graham slowly sneaks into the lead. By the end of the episode, Sam is the one who has to strip down and take the plunge. Graham McTavish is still thrilled about it.

“All I can say is that it was such a sweet moment when I was able to witness him running in the freezing rain and wind into the North Atlantic Ocean,” McTavish told Decider. “So I literally fell to my knees with joy. I know this might seem a little petty, but…”

“Very petty,” Sam Heughan said, interrupting. “Childish. I mean, the amount of jubilation and then and then also, like, as we were driving to the skinny dipping, I mean, he just couldn’t contain himself.”

McTavish said, “What was so great, we had such great weather and on the day he had to do that, it was terrible. It’s not that I delight in watching him suffer like that, but by this point, I had been put through quite a lot.”

“So it’s my fault?” Heughan asked sarcastically.

“A little tiny bit,” McTavish said. “But no, it was great. All credit to him for doing it. Oh, yeah. I would have done it. I’m glad he did.”

If you want to catch the moment Sam Heughan strips down and skinny-dips in the frigid sea, you’ll have to check out Men in Kilts Episode 2 on Starz.
