Paramount Films to Premiere on Paramount+ As Soon as 35 Days After Theatrical Release

More theatrical releases are set to hit home earlier than usual this year. As the pandemic continues to change moviegoing in unexpected ways, Paramount+ , the streaming service currently known as CBS All Access, is planning to release films from Paramount Pictures to its audience at home. During today’s Investor Day event, ViacomCBS announced that films on the Paramount Pictures 2021 release schedule will land on Paramount+ within 35 to 45 days after they first premiere in theaters.

Films from Paramount this year include the long-awaited A Quiet Place II, which premieres in theaters Sept. 17; Mission: Impossible 7, which is slated for a November 19 release; and Top Gun: Maverick, which premieres in theaters July 2. The Quiet Place sequel will be available on Paramount+ starting Nov. 1, while Mission Impossible: 7 will premiere on the streaming platform Jan. 3, 2022.

With the new release plan, audiences will have a chance to see the Paramount films at home during the pandemic much sooner than usual. Typically, movies stay in theaters for about 90 days before hitting VOD or streaming, so the new Paramount+ release schedule slashes that period in half.

Paramount+, which officially launches March 4, will offer original movies and shows like The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run and The Godfather series The Offer, plus a library of over 2,000 films and content from networks like CBS, BET, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, and The Smithsonian Channel. Paramount+ will also include some reboots of beloved shows, like Criminal MindsiCarlyBehind the Music, and The Game.

HOW MUCH DOES PARAMOUNT PLUS COST?

At launch day, ViacomCBS will be offering two Paramount+ subscriptions: a premium, commercial-free plan priced at $9.99/month, and an ad-supported tier priced at $5.99/month. Both plans will give subscribers access to live sports, CBSN breaking news, CBS’ live feed, Paramount+ originals, and more, but you’ll have to upgrade to the premium package to take advantage of 4K, Dolby, HD, and mobile downloads.
