When the list of new releases on Netflix comes out every month, it sometimes feels like the leading streamer has opened up a firehose of content of all types: scripted, unscripted, international, and more. With everyone’s limited time, it’s hard to figure out which shows you want to sit down and binge.
The crew at Decider know how tough it is to figure what to watch… and we do this for a living. So let us be your guide. Below are quick previews of what we think the ten hottest, most intriguing series to debut on the service in March 2021 will be. They aren’t all Netflix Originals (though most are because of that firehose); just shows we know people will want to watch. Which shows will make it into the Netflix Top 10? Only time will tell!
'Murder Among The Mormons'
PREMIERE DATE: March 3
CAST:Jared Hess and Tyler Measom (directors)
RATING: TV-14
DESCRIPTION: A 3-part docuseries that includes Joe Berlinger among its executive producers, directors Jared Hess and Tyler Measom examine a 1985 murder case in Salt Lake City. Three pipe bombs went off, and one of the victims of those bombings was found with documents that would almost bring down the modern-day Mormon Church.
'Last Chance U: Basketball'
PREMIERE DATE: March 10
CAST: N/A
RATING: TV-MA
DESCRIPTION: The team that went inside the world of football at various community colleges now turns its camera to the ins and outs of the basketball program East Los Angeles College, a community college team who is full of Division 1 recruits are trying to prove themselves one last time.
'Marriage Or Mortgage'
PREMIERE DATE: March 10
CAST: Sarah Miller, Nichole Holmes
RATING: TV-G
DESCRIPTION: A Nashville based wedding planner (Miller) and real-estate agent (Holmes) consult with couples who are trying to figure out whether they should throw a big wedding or use that money to put a down payment on a house. Miller is what Netflix describes as “a hopeless romantic”, while Holmes is simply described as “twice-divorced.” Let the competition begin!
'The One'
PREMIERE DATE: March 12
CAST: Hannah Ware, Zoë Tapper, Dimitri Leonidas, Amir El-Masry
RATING: TV-MA
DESCRIPTION: Based on a novel by John Marrs, The One is a mystery thriller about a new DNA test that can match people to their perfect mates, even if these people are already in successful relationships. If this sounds a lot like AMC’s Soulmates, you’re paying attention. But this is not an anthology like that series was, so it’s got that going for it.
'Paradise PD' Part 3
PREMIERE DATE: March 12
CAST: Tom Kenny, Sarah Chalke, David Herman, Kyle Kinane, Cedric Yarbrough, Dana Snyder
RATING: TV-MA
DESCRIPTION: A third season of raunchy hijinks from one of the worst police departments ever assembled. Paradise police chief Randall Crawford (Kenny) has a ragtag crew that are only slightly less weird and raunchy than the townspeople they’re sworn to protect. Created by Waco O’Guin
and Roger Black.
'The Lost Pirate Kingdom'
PREMIERE DATE: March 15
CAST: James Oliver Wheatley, Derek Jacobi, Sam Callis, Thomas Padley, Evan Milton
RATING: TV-MA
DESCRIPTION: A docuseries with dramatic reenactments that examines the real-life pirates that plundered the islands in the Carribean, including Blackbeard, Charles Vane and Anne Bonny. The re-enactments promise to be, um, interesting. We don’t love extended reenactments, but how are you going to see Blackbeard in living color without them?
'Waffles + Mochi'
PREMIERE DATE: March 16
CAST: Michelle Obama, Michelle Zamora, Russ Walko
RATING: TV-Y
DESCRIPTION: Crank the adorable meter up to 11 with this new kids’ series from Michelle and Barack Obama’s production company, Higher Ground. Waffles (who’s half Yeti and half frozen waffle) and his little buddy Mochi (who’s a mochi) have come down from their frigid home to learn about different foods and where they come from. The former First Lady plays the owner of the magical supermarket where the two launch their adventures, continuing her efforts to get people to make healthy food choices.
'Country Comfort'
PREMIERE DATE: March 19
CAST: Katharine McPhee, Eddie Cibrian, Ricardo Hurtado
RATING: TV-PG
DESCRIPTION: Katharine McPhee stars in this multicamera family sitcom as Bailey, a country singer who is experiencing a career downturn. She takes a job as a nanny for a cowboy named Beau (Cibrian) and his five kids… Hm… enough to create a pretty adorable band, right?
'The Irregulars'
PREMIERE DATE: March 26
CAST: McKell David, Thaddea Graham, Harrison Osterfield, Jojo Macari, Darci Shaw
RATING: TV-MA
DESCRIPTION: Ever wanted to know just who those Irregulars were that Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson used to help them solve crimes? Look no further than this new supernatural thriller, set in Victorian London. Seven teens examine the creepy, crawly and otherworldly at the command of Watson and Holmes, the latter of which they have never met.
'Nailed It! Double Trouble'
PREMIERE DATE: March 26
CAST: Nicole Byer, Jacques Torres
RATING: TV-PG
DESCRIPTION: The fifth season of this hilarious baking contest now has Byer and Torres hosting competitions between teams of two bakers. Yes, two bakers who are both really, really bad at baking. Ambitious baking projects are attempted, and the person who comes the closest wins $10,000. But, believe us, no one is going to get anywhere near what the project is supposed to look like.
