‘Party Down’ Revival Set at Starz

Party Down was a show gone far too soon. The cult comedy following a group of down-on-their-luck caterers only ran for two seasons on Starz, but we’re about to get a little bit more of the cringey, dark comedy, the network announced today. Starz has set a Party Down reboot, bringing back the beloved show for a six-part limited series.

The new comedy comes from the original Party Down creators Rob Thomas, John Enbom, Paul Rudd, and Dan Etheridge, who are returning as executive producers, with Enbom listed as showrunner. Thomas said in a press release today that the idea for a revival came after a cast reunion at a 2019 Vulture event. “We had such a good time that we wanted to find a way to get the team back together again,” he said. “The cast is so busy these days that finding a window where we can do it may require trigonometry, but we’re determined to make it happen.”

Party Down, which aired from 2009-2010 on Starz, originally starred Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Megan Mullally, Jane Lynch, and Ryan Hansen. Marino stars as the overly enthusiastic head of a catering team made up of people who would rather be doing anything but working fancy events. As Starz describes it, “Each episode of this half-hour comedy finds the hapless catering team working a new event – and inevitably getting tangled up with the colorful guests and their absurd lives.”

While the network didn’t confirm which members of the original Party Down cast would be coming back or if the revival would be set in the future, we’ve got plenty of questions: Are Henry (Scott) and Casey (Caplan) together? Did Ron’s (Marino) Soup ‘R Crackers dreams come true? Did Roman (Starr) finally find success as a screenwriter?

We’re crossing our fingers all of these and more will be answered in the Party Down revival. For now, there’s no better time to rewatch or discover the original two seasons of Party Down, which are now streaming on Hulu and the Starz app.
