At the end of Tuesday’s heartbreaking episode, NCIS said goodbye to Emily Fornell (played by Juliette Angelo), the daughter of FBI Special Agent Tobias Fornell, with a touching poem read in her honor. The poem on NCIS paid tribute to the character fans have come to love over the past few seasons and acknowledged her tragic, untimely death, which came as a result of a drug overdose.

WHAT WAS THE POEM ON NCIS LAST NIGHT?
At the end of Tuesday’s episode of NCIS (Season 18, Episode 9, “Winter Chill”), Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano) got the call that all parents dread: his daughter, Emily Fornell (Juliette Angelo), had relapsed and was rushed to the hospital following an overdose. Unfortunately, Emily died, and the episode concluded with a heart-wrenching poem read by Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) about our spirits living on after we die.
DOES THE “WHEN I DIE” POEM ON NCIS HAVE A TITLE?
The poem featured in NCIS last night is titled “Epitaph” by Merritt Malloy. The first two verses are as follows:
When I die
Give what’s left of me away
To children
And old me that wait to die.
And if you need to cry,
Cry for your brother
Walking the street beside you.

Around anyone

What you need to give to me.

NCIS may have introduced “Epitaph” to a wider audience, but Tuesday wasn’t the first time Malloy’s emotional poem made headlines. In October 2019, the poem was posted by composer David Joyce on Facebook, and it quickly went viral, earning more than 123,000 shares in a single week.
