Woman Crush Wednesday: Ciara Bravo Serves Up a Fruitful Performance in ‘Cherry’

As we make our way through March, we continue to celebrate the improving weather, the sleep we’ll squeeze in before Daylight Savings begins, and all of the incredible women that deserve to be recognized this glorious Women’s History Month (along with every other month!). And now we’re here again for another Woman Crush Wednesday, this time gushing about a big time crush who, although only 23 years-old, has already had an impressive career thus far in both film and television. So, without further ado, let’s get right into it and get hyped for this week’s WCW, the amazing Ciara Bravo!

WHO’S THAT GAL:  Ciara Bravo

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Bravo stars as Emily in Cherry, a crime drama film that’s premiering on Apple TV+ this Friday, March 12th. This Anthony and Joe Russo-directed movie is based on Nico Walker’s 2018 book of the same name, and revolves around an Army medic, Cherry (Tom Holland), who is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and becomes a serial bank robber after an addiction to drugs puts him in debt.

Critics and reviewers are already giving Cherry positive press in addition to praising Bravo’s performance. The New York Times recently wrote that Bravo, who plays Cherry’s girlfriend, is “the performer who has the strongest emotional hold on the viewer, and the most memorable find here.” Deadline dubbed Bravo “a real find” and every bit Holland’s equal in the film, in addition to praising their chemistry. The Chicago Sun-Times called Bravo’s work as Emily “a devastatingly effective performance.” These are just a few of the many accolades for Bravo, Holland, and the rest of the cast’s great work, so make sure to catch it all in Cherry as soon as it drops on Apple TV+.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Bravo began her professional onscreen career in 2008 at the age of 11 when she was in two episodes of Disney Junior interactive children’s show Can You Teach My Alligator Manners?. Just one year later, she appeared in her first feature length film, mystery thriller Angels & Demons, in addition to scoring her first main role as Katie Knight in Nickelodeon musical comedy series Big Time Rush, which she acted in from 2009 to 2013.  From there, she acted in films like 2010 animated comedy Open Season 3, 2012 musical comedy Big Time Movie, 2016 comedy Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, 2017 drama To The Bone, and 2018 road trip comedy The Long Dumb Road, as well as in television series like The Penguins of MadagascarThe Haunted HathawaysNCISAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Into the Dark.

In addition to her years on Big Time Rush, Bravo is best known for her main and recurring roles in television series like FOX teen medical comedy-drama Red Band Society, FOX sci-fi crime drama Second Chance, YouTube Premium action dark comedy Wayne, and Hulu drama A Teacher, all over the six years. Bravo has already accrued quite the impressive body of work and is only just getting started, so keep an eye out for what’s sure to be a long and exciting career in the years to come!

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Luckily, you won’t have to wait too much longer to see more from Bravo. She’ll be playing Crystal Romanoski in upcoming comedy-drama Small Engine Repair, an adaption of the 2019 stage play of the same name about former high school buddies Frank (John Pollono), Swaino (Jon Bernthal) and Packie (Shea Whigham) who are all now past their prime and meet off-hours one night to find everything shaken up and old resentments brought back by a preppy college jock named Chad (Spencer House). Bravo will also star as Cassie in upcoming drama film Coast, in which 16 year old Abby’s (Fatima Ptacek) life changes when a traveling rock band gets stuck in her small town. Both films are currently in post-production and expected to be released later this year.
