‘She’s All That’ Remake ‘He’s All That’ Lands at Netflix

He’s All That, the gender-swapped remake of classic ’90s rom-com She’s All That, will premiere on Netflix, Deadline reports. The new spin on the movie stars TikTok royalty Addison Rae, plus Cobra Kai‘s Tanner Buchanan and original film star Rachel Leigh Cook. The deal with Miramax reportedly cost Netflix over $20 million, according to Deadline sources.

The upcoming film flips the 1999 classic, casting Rae as influencer Padgett Sawyer — a role inspired by Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Zackary Siler — in her acting debut. While Rae is known primarily for her following on TikTok, her involvement in He’s All That is “a key reason” why the remake happpened, per Deadline. He’s All That will be told from Padgett’s point of view as she takes on a dare to turn her school’s resident geek (Buchanan) into prom king. The film also stars Madison Pettis, Peyton Meyer, Isabella Crovetti, Annie Jacob, Myra Molloy and Matthew Lillard.

While He’s All That stars fresh talent, the new movie comes from teen rom-com veteran Mark Waters, who directed both Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, plus She’s All That writer R. Lee Fleming. Jennifer Gigbot and Andrew Panay, producers from the original film, also joined the remake with Miramax’s Bill Block. And because Rae is a central part of the film, TikTok reportedly helped back the project.

The original She’s All That, which is an adaptation of both George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion” and the 1964 film My Fair Lady, stars Prinze as a popular high schooler who finds his social status falling after his girlfriend (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) leaves him for a reality TV star (Lillard). Challenged by his friends to replace his ex with any girl at school, Zack tries to turn dorky art student Laney Boggs (Cook) into his school’s prom queen.

While Netflix didn’t name an official He’s All That release date yet, the film is expected to premiere later this year.
